Branding & Marketing
Branding and marketing go hand in hand so take time to carefully construct a professional LinkedIn profile that captures the professional image you want to convey.
Headshot
The importance of having a professional headshot can’t be overstated. If you are unable to get a professional headshot done, try posting an action shot of yourself. For example, if you want to market yourself as a public speaker post a photo of yourself at a podium.
About
Make sure the “About” section you complete is written concisely and is not longer than 2 to 3 sentences in length per paragraph. Be concise in your writing. This is the first section that a reader will come across. If you present the “About” section with little to no white space, you’ll likely lose the attention of the reader.
Numbers & Results
It’s always best to provide numbers and results when describing roles and responsibilities. So, instead of writing about tasks and duties in your previous or current jobs, tell your reader about your milestones and accomplishments using numbers. For example, it’s more powerful to say that you “increased revenue by $1 million per year” rather than having been “responsible for revenue generation”.
Customize URL
Customize your LinkedIn URL so that your name is in it. Customizing your LinkedIn URL will help with Search Engine Optimization (SEO). To edit your URL simply go to “Edit Public Profile and URL.” Best to type in your first and last name then save.
Recommendations
Recommendations are important if you want “social proof” with your audience. Endorsements from people who have worked with you can sing your praise more effectively than you can promote yourself.
Achievements
Remember to update your LinkedIn profile whenever you have new achievements to post.
Good Luck!
Good luck getting results using your updated LinkedIn profile.
