Tik Tok is a short-form mobile video platform that is usually edited on a smartphone. Although Tik Tok videos can be edited on a computer the ability to edit videos on a smartphone gives the user the ability to upload video content quickly.

Tik Tok’s mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy to the viewer. It’s different from other social media networks in that this platform is focused on lifting the spirits of the users. Some call it “joy scrolling” versus “doom scrolling”.
Tik Tok creators tend be focused on the lighter side of light. They are interested in lighter, more playful content and tend to favour humour over sarcasm. On the Tik Tok platform you’ll notice that videos lean towards showing off creativity in fields such as music or cooking and the emphasis tends to be on having fun. As well, there is an organic feel to Tik Tok videos. The viewer often gets the feeling that content was created organically and not in a formal setting.

Facebook is still the most used social media platform with 2.4 billion users. YouTube is next with 2 billion users. Instagram is in third spot with 1 billion users. Today, Tik Tok claims 800 million (and growing) users.

The good news for Tik Tok content creators is that there is a large gap in the number of people creating content compared to viewers. So, it’s easier to get more viewers looking at your content which is a big advantage if you are looking for an audience in today’s highly competitive social media platforms.

Today, the Tik Tok platform presents many opportunities for businesses to experiment with branding. Given that video content can be edited using a smartphone, creating content can be cheap and easy. So, consider signing up for a free Tik Tok account and producing your first video. Try creating some content that highlights your business or your personal brand. Whatever you do, remember to produce content that is upbeat, fun, and feels organic by nature.
